Description

Made with Chardonnay grape varieties from our 30 year old vineyard, rooted in fresh alluvial soil. Harvested at the optimum stage of grape maturation to obtain a singular wine, full of aromatic complexity, freshness and structured mouth feel.

(13% abv - 2023)

Quinta do Casal Monteiro is located in one of the most prestigious growing regions in Portugal - the Tejo region. This area takes its name from the Tagus river, which flows through the region and provides a singular diversity in terroir and climate.

Established in 1979, Quinta do Casal Monteiro bottles limited production vintages exclusively from their 80 hectare vineyard property. The vines are located in alluvial sandy loam soil where, the characteristic of the sub-Mediterranean temperate climate and its proximity to the river Tagus, provide vintages with their own specific identity. This identity is reflected in both the aromas and the palate of the vintages which are very rich in fruit tones and reveal in general superb acidity - Excellent food companions.

The grapes are totally destemmed and crushed by means of a pneumatic press followed by pellicular maceration for 12 hours. Fermentation in stainless steel vats is processed at a controlled temperature of 15°C. Before the last third of fermentation process, 50% of the wine/must is diverted to new french barrels to end fermentation and ageing for another 3 months, undergoing Battonage.

In 2015 they were pleased to announce that Luis M. A. Santos was appointed the new Winemaker at Quinta do Casal Monteiro. After a 7 years experience as resident winemaker at Carregal do Sal (Quinta de Cabriz), Luis is currently in charge of both the winegrowing and winemaking divisions of Quinta do Casal Monteiro being responsible for all wine products produced and bottled at the Estate.
