Description

Bodegas Muga, Haro, Rioja Alta

Crafted from a blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta, Graciano and Mazuelo, Muga's 'Selección Especial' 2020 is deep in colour with an intense nose of complex aromas: ripe fruit notes to the fore, together with clove and vanilla spice, as well as notes of chocolate and cocoa. The palate is very well-balanced with polished tannins, a smooth mouth-feel and well-integrated acidity which will give it great potential for ageing. The finish is long and complex, with the hints of ripe fruit returning, together with the toasted nuances.

2020 - 14.5% abv

Soil: Clay-limestone Tertiary-era terraces located on the slopes of Montes Obarenes and Sierra Cantabria.
Vinification: After fermentation with indigenous yeasts in oak vats, the wine is aged for 26 months in new French oak barrels, made in the Muga cooperage. After being fined with fresh egg whites, the wine is bottled and then cellared for at least 18 months for further ageing.
Food pairing: Red meats, especially lamb and all types of game dishes.

The Muga vineyards are located in the Oja and Tiro river valleys of La Rioja Alta but the winery is based on the outskirts of Haro, the historical home of Rioja's most prestigious bodegas.  Bodegas Muga was created in 1932 and over the years Muga wines have gained international recognition and acclaim.
