Description

5eme Cru Classé Pauillac

The 2010 Grand Puy Lacoste is classic Pauillac - and a real steal compared to some of the first growths from this vintage. Drink 2023-2045 [83% Cabernet Sauvignon with 17% Merlot]

13% abv

"...You can spend a lot more money on wines of this vintage and not get as much pleasure as you are getting in the glass here. Pure brilliant Pauillac, dripping with liquorice, black chocolate, rose petals, blackberries, smoked earth, cassis, all poised with purity. Only just thinking about its drinking window, and just so generous and balanced even now, but come back in 10 years and it will only have moved on a few tiptoes - this is a slow-ageing, confident wine that will take its time..." Jane Anson - JaneAnson.com, September 2021

A 5eme Cru Classe Pauillac estate, Grand-Puy-Lacoste consistently punches above its classification. Located a couple of kilometres to the west of the town of Pauillac, it's very much a family operation: purchased in 1978 by Jean-Eugène Borie who passed it to his son, François-Xavier to run, who in turn now leaves the day to day operation of the property to his daughter Emeline. As well as the Grand Vin they also make an excellent second wine under the Lacoste Borie label. The estate derives its name from a member of the Bordeaux Parliament, Monsieur Lacoste, who owned the château during the 16th century. The words Grand-Puy, which means a large knoll, refer to the elevation the vineyards sit upon. These are deep-coloured wines rich in cedarwood and cigar-box character - perfect illustrations of the best Pauillac terroirs.
