The high density of plantation and traditional cultural methods provide ideal conditions for the grapes to mature.

WINEMAKING/MATURING The grapes are harvested manually at optimum maturity. As they are brought into the cellars, they are destemmed and kept in thermoregulated vats, between 28 and 30°C. Such conditions provide the ideal environment for successful fermentations (alcoholic and malolactic) and maceration, which may last from 2 to 3 weeks depending on the vintage. The wine is then kept in stainless steel vats for 8 to 12 months. Alc: 13%

The original name of this property, parts of which date back to the 12th and 16th centuries, was La Salle d'Argadens. It became Chateau Argadens in 2002, when it was bought by Maison Sichel. Sichel's aim in acquiring Argadens was quite simply to see it express the full potential of its wonderful terroir and become one of the benchmark properties in the Bordeaux Superieur category. To achieve this, the Sichel family has put in place a vast renovation program. After 12 months in oak barrels, Argadens red is thoroughly modern Bordeaux with lots of concentrated fruit and an attractive, supple balance. With the arrival of Dubourdieu as consultant at the same time, there has been a big leap upwards in quality and their 2009 is a very important wine, showing off real St. EstŠphe classicism but with a rich, intense black fruit and a very refreshing backdrop. With the vineyard planted to 50% Merlot, Basile Tesseron has put a great deal more than usual in to the second wine to ensure that the grand vin benefits from as much Cabernet as possible. Very dense and unctuous but with that tell-tale 2009 freshness. Beautifully crafted.
