Gros Manseng 2022, Domaine des Cassagnoles
Gros Manseng is a Basque grape variety that is now making a name for itself in Gascony in Southwest France. This wine is crisp yet complex, overlaid with a gorgeous acacia/pink grapefruit bouquet. On the palate there are hints of greengage and grapefruit, with a touch of lime, and a superb long, rich finish. It is excellent as an aperitif or with poultry or fish. (2022 - 13% abv)
The Baumann family, father wife and daughter, originally focused more on producing Armagnac but over the past several years they diversified their production into producing table wines. Their 75 ha estate is planted with a diverse mix of predominantly white grape varieties like Colombard, Gros Manseng, Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Ugni Blanc. About 10% of the vineyards are planted with the red grapes of Tannat, Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot.
