Description

5eme Grand Cru Classe

2016 - 13% abv

52% Cabernet Sauvignon - 39% Merlot - 5% Cabernet Franc - 4% Petit Verdot

"The 2016 Cantemerle has a ripe, juicy bouquet with blackberry, black olive and blueberry fruit, quite floral in style. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite high-toned in terms of acidity, sapid, with a welcome briny finish. More-ish and great value. Yes please!..." 92 - Neal Martin, vinous.com, April 2026

"Lovers of good value claret should flock towards this lovely red blend in 2016. Fresh, sappy and grassy, it’s a wine that’s all about texture and fruit flavour rather than oak and tannin. Elegant, subtle and effortlessly complex. Drink 2020-28" 91 - Tim Atkin MW, timatkin.com, April 2017

The Chateau Cantemerle estate lies at the southern tip of the Medoc peninsula and covers 200 hectares of land, including nearly 100 hectares of preserved nature: woodland, parkland and meadows.

Set on siliceous gravel soils, the Cantemerle vineyard covers 98 hectares surrounding the château. These gravels were formed by the ancient erosion of the Pyrenees by the Garonne River and are a key component of the Médoc’s great terroirs.
