St Amour La Gagere 2020 Domaine Perrachon
We have worked with this lovely family since the early 1990s, when we first started buying wines from Laurent Perrachons father, Jacques. Fifth generation vignerons, Laurent and Martine Perrachon, have recently been joined by their sons, Maxime and Adrien. The former is very much concerned with viticulture whilst Adrien is to be found in the cellars and involved in the wine making side of the business. This is an important 30-hectare estate, situated in the la Bottiere lieu-dit in Julienas. Currently, the Perrachons are working towards 100% lutte-raisonne (sustainable viticulture) and only mechanically working their soils, removing any need for weed-killers. This is a domaine that is very much on the up and in 2018, they received one of the few, highly coveted Coup de Coeurs awarded by La Revue de Vin de France. Laurent Perrachon is the current president of the Julienas cru and is very involved in the development of individual lieu-dit sites which he promotes on his own labels.
Today they harvest grapes on six appellations: Julienas, Morgon, Moulin-a-Vent, Fleurie, Chenas and our latest addition, Saint-Amour.
Any visit to their lovely cellars is incomplete without a tray of warm-from-the-oven goueres which Martine Perrachon generously produces. Accompanied by a glass of cru Beaujolais. What could be finer?
SAINT AMOUR AOC , la Gagere 2016 - Perrachon, Saint Amour, Beaujolais, Burgundy, France Pursuing the work of their ancestors producing wines the traditional way the Perrachon family are masters at crafting greatness from the Gamay grape. This wine is from a small parcel of 28 acres, on a very rocky soil, on the most northern part of the Saint Amour appellation, overlooking the village of Saint-Veran. This is a sensual and delicate wine with a great personality. Made from hand picked 70 year old vines may we suggest this to accompany your lamb.
