Pouilly-Vinzelles En Longeays 2020 Domaine Mathias
The name of Pouilly is most often associated with Fuisse but vineyards of Vinzelles border those of its more famous cousin. Here the whites are less intense and are best drunk within a couple of years of the vintage. Although lighter they still have a fine and delicate Chardonnay fruitiness with no oak maturation. They are medium-bodied and fresh on the palate.
Gilles Mathias has been running this immaculate estate since the mid-1990's with the continued support of his father, Jean. We first started buying wines from Jean over fifteen years ago and we have seen this estate improve in quality ever since. The Vinzelles sees no oak maturation and is ebulliently fruity and fresh, coming from a parcel of vines that is situated right next to the Mathias Fuisse vines.
