Morgon Corcelette 2021, Domaine Perrachon
Grown in beautiful vineyards and on soil, which is extremely rich in the mineral manganese (which helps the vines impart a special flavour to the grapes), this is supple and lingering on the palate. The wine fills the mouth with ripe, rich red cherry fruit flavours with hints of fresh raspberries and spices. From a tiny plot of vines situated in les Versauds, planted in the 1920s.
The masterly Jacques Perrachon, ably assisted by his sons, is one of Beaujolais most fastidious wine-makers and the range of individual lieu-dit sites owned by him and his sons produce wines with that little bit of extra dimension. Jacques obviously enjoys his work, even though he is, strictly speaking, retired. He has one of the most permanently engaging smiles - a cheerfulness and sense of humour he has passed onto the next generations. His hospitality and generosity are legendary and his wife's gougres (little morcels of cheesy choux pastry that appear towards the end of our tastings there) are to die for!
