La Croix De Beaucaillou 2016
St.Julien - Second wine of Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou
Chateau Beaucaillou had the name Ducru prefixed to it in honour of a previous owner of the estate. Ironically under the Ducru family the buidlings fell into a state of some disrepair and it was only in the mid 1800s when the chateau was purchased by the highly-reputed Negociant family of Nathaniel Johnston that the necessary improvements were made. Ducru is now owned by Jean-Eugene Borie.
The vineyards on the estate are affectionately called ' des beaux cailloux' (the beautiful pebbles) and cover 50 hectares of gravel crests adjacent to the Gironde. It is undoubtedly one of the great wines of the Medoc.?ÿ
The grape mix is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot with 5% each Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
