Chateau Tassin 2018, Bordeaux Superieur
Gonfrier Frères, Lestiac, Gironde, France
50% Merlot - 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. A beautiful garnet colour with brilliant tints, this wine offers a generous bouquet of red berried fruits, cherry and spices, underpinned by toasty notes. The palate is generous and rich, with nobly elegant tannins. A wine with good length, a fine example of the genre. 2018 13.5% abv. Best drunk within 2 to 5 years of the vintage but will keep for up to 8 years.
TERROIR The vineyard's south-west exposure reveals clay-limestone soil that provides very good natural drainage. The high density of plantation and traditional cultural methods provide ideal conditions for the grapes to mature.
WINEMAKING/MATURING The grapes are harvested manually at optimum maturity. As they are brought into the cellars, they are destemmed and kept in thermoregulated vats, between 28 and 30°C. Such conditions provide the ideal environment for successful fermentations (alcoholic and malolactic) and maceration, which may last from 2 to 3 weeks depending on the vintage. The wine is then kept in stainless steel vats for 8 to 12 months. Before bottling the wines are fined and filtered.
