Chateau Rieussec 2005, Sauternes
1er Cru Classe Sauternes
One of the 'sweeties' of the vintage and a monumental wine with outstanding balance and aging potential. A complex honeyed, spicy fruit cake and floral nose and a viscous, juicy palate with extraordinary acidity. A touch of creme brulee and apricots on the mid-palate and a formidable, long spicy - yet beautifully zingy finish. Drink 2016 to 2035.
For several generations, Chateau Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked that "Beyond any of the others, Rieussec produces wines that are very similar to Yquem wines".
Owned by the Barons de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite the chateau is next door to the hallowed ground of Yquem.
Rieussec's style is always one of intense power with an almost roasted richness on the palate. It produces very deeply coloured wines with great viscosity.
