Chateau Garraud 2016
Lalande de Pomerol, Néac
2016 Vintage Deep garnet color. Delicate aromas of vanilla and oak over a ripe fruit background. Soft, juicy and round on the palate. Clean finish, great fruit-oak balance. A distinct Lalande personality that benefited from the oak ageing.
Made from a variety of terroirs (deep gravel, sandy soils and clay on the classic crasse de fer ) which ensures a wine of considerable complexity. [Drink: 2014-2026]
The average vines are aged 40 years. The wines see 20 days of maceration - 80% of wine aged in French oak barrels (1/3 new oak, 2/3 used). They produce roughly 80,000 bottles per annum.
The new generation that is now in charge at this splendid 32 hectare (total incl l'Ancien) property has managed to elevate Château Garraud into star-status in a comparatively short space of time. The vineyards are situated in the prime zone of Néac, where all the region’s most respected châteaux are to be found. The dynamic Jean-Marc Nony is employing Michel Rolland as consultant oenologist and minute attention to detail has resulted in a run of vintages which are nothing short of spectacular.
