Brouilly Creigne 2022, Chateau de Vaux
The 2022 was made very much in the image as Chris’ Brouilly from Pavé, using the same wine-making techniques and with low yields. The 2022 Brouilly ‘Creigne’ is deep-coloured, fleshy and unctuous, with fine tannins and a distinctive black fruit overlay, finishing with a zippy, refreshing acidity.
The ‘lieu-dit’ Creigne is situated at the foot of the Côte de Brouilly, in the commune of Odenas, one of the leading villages making up the ‘cru’ of Brouilly. With the vines of Château du Pavé no longer available, Chris Piper has joined Yannick de Vermont, at Château de Vaux, in a collaborative venture to continue Chris’ passion and links with Brouilly. Yannick has leased 1.10 hectares of vineyard with 40 year-old vines, on the outstanding rootstock 420A (with low vigour and excellent drought tolerance). The soil is a combination of deep granite with a loose accumulation of rock and soil debris, at the foot of slope the Mont de Brouilly slope.
