At CPW we like to think that one of our specialties is the extremely wide range of Beaujolais we stock. While the dust settles from a very successful Beaujolais-Nouveau Day we thought you might like to virtually peruse our shelves of these excellent wines.
Château Thivin 'Clos de Rochebonne' - White Beaujolais is a rarity, only 1% of wines made are white. From one of the most iconic estate in Beaujolais, this Chardonnay has the faintest touch of oak and is a racy, zesty white with lovely purity and complexity.
Château de Grandmont 'Blanc des Moines' - This beautiful family domaine dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The wine is given some 'weight' by finishing the élévage in tank on the lees. It's youthful with lovely citrus and exotic fruity notes.
Château de Grandmont Beaujolais 'Le Rosé' - one of Chris Piper's wines (award winning oenologist for the last 30 years). Fabulously ripe and rounded with zesty strawberry fruits. Delightful for lunch any day. Organic
Château de Grandmont Beaujolais-Villages - another of Chris Piper's wines, this is a rich, concentrated Villages, pushing well above its weight and packed full of black cherry fruits. Organic
Château du Pavé, Brouilly - an excellent wine to have with English lamb, the dominant fruit is cassis and ripe cherry with wonderfully fine tannins and freshness. Owned by the Brac de la Perriere family, this is also one of Chris Piper's wines and certified Organic.
Domaine Julien Duport Côte de Brouilly 'Les Empreintes' - In his mid-thirties, Julien Duport is one of the new generation of hugely talented young growers who are determined to bring the Beaujolais region back to its former glory. The Empreintes is built for long-term and has fabulous depth and structure, developing well over the next few years. Worth stashing a bottle away.
Domine Remy Passot 'Chiroubles' - Medaille d'Or (Gold Medal) at the Concours des Grands Vins de Beaujolais January 2020. Winner, The Times Top 100 Wines of Summer 2019. Intensely fruity, this is a mouthfilling juicy red with a lovely smooth fruity finish.
Domaine Laurent Perrachon. We currently stock four wines made at this lovely family estate: Morgon 'Les Corcelettes, from a tiny plot of vines planted in the 1920's, this is a very supple wine with ripe, rich cherry flavours; Juliénas Les Mouilles, currently drinking 'a pointe' it's a succulent red ideal with lamb dishes, ; Julienas Roche Bleu is a wonderfully rich and expressive red, hard to resist now but will drink quite happily for the next few years. St Amour is from a small parcel of 28 acres on very rocky soil. A sensual, delicate wine with great personality.
Domaine Thillardon 'Chénas'. At just over 30 years old, Paul-Henri Thillardon is the youngest vigneron-winemaker that we deal with. The Chénas is made to be consumed young and has a gorgeous silky structure and spicy long finish.
Domaine Fernand Verpoix 'Fleurie' - Fernand Verpoix sadly passed away in 2018. He was one of the first independent Beaujolais growers to join the CPW 'team' in 1991 and was, without doubt' one of the most adored by us all. His Fleurie has excellent silky fruit and penetrating concentration.
Domaine Paul Janin. Three very different wines. Moulin-a-Vent les Vignes de Tremblay, an intensely powerful and rich wine with succulent blackberry, plum and cassis flavours. Moulin-a-Vent 'Heritage', a blend of the oldest vineyards in the area giving this an amazing complexity and Moulin-a-Vent Saprolite' a new wine for us this year, named for the eroded granite soils. Soft and rounded with elegant, delicate tannins it is eminently drinkable.
