Chalkdown - Andover Down, Hampshire
The Chalkdown winery is owned by Piotr Nahajski, whose background is as an engineer but who fell in love with the concept of winemaking. Piotr went to study oenology at Plumpton College and then, in 2013, decided to build himself a state-of-the-art winery, concentrating only on the production of high-quality traditional method sparkling wine.
The grapes, grown in and around Hampshire’s Andover Downs, are sourced from a couple of established, quality conscious growers with whom Piotr has been working with for the past twelve years.
The Classic Cuvée is made from a blend of Pinot Noir (42%) and Chardonnay (58%) grapes, from the 2020 harvest. It is very fresh and vibrant with layers of stone fruit and green apple flavours. It is the epitome of top-class English Sparkling Wine, picking up an impressive 90 points at the IWSC 90 points and 94 points at the Decanter World Wine Awards. The Chalkdown Rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir also from the 2020 vintage. Delicately coloured, it is overflowing with strawberry and cream flavours, with hints of vanilla and summer blossom.
