Description

Domaine de la Bretonniere, Le Landreau, Loire.

This is an old-vine selection made from their vineyards in the commune of Le Landreau, on a complex geological mix of green rock, gneiss and clay. The vineyards are at about 200 metres altitude, facing south-westwards. The fully ripe grapes are classically fermented at low temperatures using neutral yeasts which allow the complex terroir to talk. Only the best vats are chosen for the Selection and elevage on the lees is in underground, cement vats for at least eight months, with the wine being bottled in May.

Pale green in colour with white fruit and floral aromas. Fresh and zingy with a definitive minerality, giving an overall effect of balance and depth. Rounded and yet with great vibrancy. Will keep well over at least two years.

The Chapentier-Fleurance family have been running this estate for four generations and since 1989, it has been run by the two brothers, Pierre-Yves and Patrice. Pierre-Yves is the wine-maker and in charge of the cellars whilst his brother, Patrice, is responsible for the vineyards and sales. The vineyards are managed using minimum intervention and Domaine de la Bretonniere is a member of the Ariane early-warning weather group, which means that they can fully optimise the moment they intervene with any chemical sprays, meaning that they have managed to reduce
their use of fungicides and herbicides by 50%.
