Vino de la Tierra Castilla
100% Verdejo from relatively high altitude organic vineyards (700m), planted in 1994. The combination of cooler vineyards, increasingly important in Spain, and use of stainless steel for fermentation/maturation maximises the freshness and acidity in this wine. (12.5% abv - 2021)
The grapes are fully ripe when picked in September but still keep a refreshing 'lime' acidity. Flavours of Meyer lemon, white peach and toasted almonds with a faint touch of fennel/herbs on the finish. The wine shows an excellent depth and balance on the palate. This Verdejo can be drunk immediately but will quietly improve for a few years...if given the chance!
Bodegas Volver is located in the best terroir of La Mancha and they specialise in rescuing 'abandoned' old vineyards with indigenous grapes and huge potential. These vineyards are situated approximately 40 miles inland from the coast at Alicante and specifically selected for their excellent soils (a mixture of deep sand, iron-rich clay and a thick layer of chalk). This varied terroir allows both white and red grapes to be grown to their full potential, balancing ripe flavours with a refreshing 'lift' on the palate.
