500ml: Firefly, Hanlons Brewery
FIREFLY (3.7% abv) A crisp, amber session bitter whose richness belies the low abv. Light on the palate and kind to the head, it delivers delicate fruitiness made from Cascade hops and balanced with biscuity maltiness. The clean and citrusy finish comes from it being late hopped with Saaz
The story of Hanlons started in 1995 when John O’Hanlan set up a micro-brewery in London, making some of England’s first craft beers. By 2000, John and his wife, Liz, moved to a site just outside Exeter and for the next twelve years, carved a very strong local reputation for their fine beers and stout. In 2013, they sold their business to Dan Taylor and Jim Bungard, today’s current owners, who moved the brewery to Half Moon village, near Crediton. Initially just concentrating on cask ales, they began to bottle almost their entire range, so that today there are five regular bottlings of these amazing brews.
