Bride Valley Rose Bella 2014

The striking and vibrant colour is enhanced by a lively mousse that introduces a bouquet bursting with light red summer berries, especially wild strawberries. This is a wine of real character and depth, and the wonderful ripeness on the palate is complemented with a clear, dry finish thanks to the low “dosage” that perfectly displays the strength of the vintage. Ideal as an aperitif or with fruit desserts.

2014 was a wonderful year for English Sparkling Wine. Spring arrived exactly on time and was the second warmest in 100 years. This resulted in an early and even bud break. Throughout June and July, conditions were warm and sunny which was ideal for flowering and fruit set. August was cooler and wet, but September and October were dry and temperatures climbed again. This long, warm Autumn gave us near perfect conditions to ripen the grapes, resulting in excellent sugar and acidity - and creating the perfect fruit for a vibrant and deeply satisfying vintage.

Pinot Noir grapes undergo a pre-fermentation soak. Then, a slow pressing creates a full rose hue – as well as outstanding aroma and flavour. 10%-20% of Chardonnay perfects the colour, and adds an elegant vivacity. Released in autumn two years after the vintage.

After 50 years in wine – and inspired by the unique chalky soils on his wife’s Dorset sheep farm – Steven Spurrier decided to join the English sparkling wine revolution. In 2008, he and Bella went to select the finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier root stocks from Burgundy’s famous Pepinieres Guillaume vine nursery. In 2011 theirr very first harvest was picked, selling out on release in 2014. Now they have over 10 hectares under cultivation, making 3 delicious wines, on the chalky south facing slopes above the beautiful Dorset village of Litton Cheney.
