Chateau Ch. Fourcas-Dupre 2011, Listrac

Product Description

Cru Bourgeois Superieur, Listrac

For a number of years, Patrice PagŠs has been demonstrating that the wines of Listrac need not be heavy and clumsy and his 2011 was our favourite wine from this commune. Following the trend for the year, it has a rich deep purple colour with a sweet cassis and oak-tinged bouquet. It is well-structured with integrated big tannins and with a most attractive texture. The balance is spot on a with the all-important freshness making this more of a 'classic' style wine that many of the other 2011's from Listrac. Very authoritive.
[Drink: 2019-2025] CCNP

The vineyards of Fourcas are mentioned on Belleyme?s map (geographical engineer of Louis XV). In 1843, the lawyer Jean Baptiste Antoine Dupr‚, member of the Bordeaux Appeal Court acquired the vineyard and in 1844 Chƒteau Fourcas Dupr‚ was born. The cellars, buildings and ?chƒteau? were completely renovated. Today, a new fully functional fermenting room and refurbished cellars for storing and packing complement the original ones. The chƒteau now belongs to a family-owned company managed by Patrice PagŠs.

The vineyard of Chƒteau Fourcas Dupre‚ is located on a crest of Pyrenean gravely soil at an altitude of 42 meters. It is an uninterrupted plot with an average density of 8500 vines per hectare. These days everything is done (vineyard draining, grape varieties adapted to the soil, limited production) to show a perfect example of this unique terroir.

In his quest for a perfectly ripe harvest, the cellar master, thanks to a fermentation cellar which is entirely temperature controlled, can show the character of the four grape varieties that compose the wine of Chƒteau Fourcas Dupr‚. Ageing in barrels, a third of which are renewed every year, completes the balance of every vintage year.
