Description

Morellino Spiaggiole has an intense ruby-red colour with a fruity nose and hints of wild berries. On the palate, it has notable acidity, characteristic of the Sangiovese grape, yet is balanced with great structure and elegance.

The grapes (90% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon & 5% Merlot ) are harvested from 8 year old vines located within the 20 hectare Spiaggiole Estate in Magliano, Tuscany, approximately 130 to 150 metres above sea level. On arrival at the winery, they are immediately destalked and undergo temperature controlled maceration for 8 to 10 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged in tank for 6 months but a small percentage is also aged in 32hl barrels for the same period of time. Spiaggiole is the second, recently acquired, property of Rocca di Castagnoli owners, the Cali family.
