Description

A ripe, crisp and aromatic white from the Verdejo grape which is the pride and joy of the Rueda region of Spain. Orange peel and blossom aromas with stony mineral citrus flavours and a touch of spice. The perfect wine with oily fish; try with Mackerel and sardines, beautiful!

We feel that Rueda, tucked away in the central north-western corner of Spain, in the province of Valladolid, is producing some of this country's most interesting 'new wave' whites. Not long ago, it was infamous for its heavy, oxidised and flabby whites but is now producing some delicious, early drinking wines with open fruit flavours and a refreshing crispness.

The Sanz family at la Castilla Vieja have been leading the way when it comes to the development of top-flight whites from the region, having pioneered night-time harvesting and developed an environmentally friendly way of getting rid of Rueda's biggest pest, the yellow spider.

From cool-climate vineyards situated about 900 metres above sea-level, the new generation of wine-makers at la Castilla Vieja have introduced the wonderful Joven Verdejo (infact at 90% Verdejo and 10% Viura blend) which combines an amazing rich, ripe fruitiness with a brilliant balancing acidity.
