Hi Christopher. Thanks for posting about IGP wines. IGP seems like a slightly ugly label to me, but I guess it's here to stay, so best get used to it. I've made a page that has a little background to the IGP top 100 awards and I've made a list of 30 of the top IGP wines from the Herault region for anyone visiting that area, which is where we're from. Christopher Piper wines is on the list of importers of course! Anyway the page is at our vineyard's website, hope you don't mind me linking to the exact page here as it's difficult to find otherwise: Top IGP Wines 2011.

Well done JOK...a thoroughly good day out and only sorry not to have caught up with you at the end. A couple of very cold pints of cider were polished off at Topsham Rugny Club, whilst discussing the post-challenge nonsense that all of us cyclists (like fishermen) tend to crap on about! We did, however, manage another sneaky half (after last year!) at the Nomansland pub - and boy, that tasted good! Bravo to everyone who took part.

Having cycled this last year, I think JOK will have absolutely no problems with the Nelo (as it's affectionately called. Some of the Plymtree 'team' were out practising today and the only argument was whether we should stop for a pint rather than a half at Nomansland this time. Last year, we felt rather short-changed with a half only! Progress reports to follow....Pipes

Well, John, you always did know how to entertain with your writing. Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your trip. Look forward to the next installment. Think I'm off to South America for a long trip at the end of the year/beginning of next year for 2 months - Chile is a definite must methinks!

I am delighted to hear how well the Pouilly Fuissé 2009 was received. That's good to know because we have been fortunate enough to secure goods stocks of this wine which will certainly keep us and our customers going for another few months! 2009 was a phenomenal vintage of outstanding richness and generosity of flavour throughout France.

I absolutely echo Fiona's thoughts. Also if you really want to push out the envelope completely why not try the Pic Saint Loup from La Bergerie du Capucin. It's a phenomenally fruity and hearty red to go with full-bodied autumnal dishes. For when we get our autumnal weather back!

I thoroughly applaud Fiona's attempt to justify a nerve-soothing, late afternoon tipple. I would have thought it worth sharing on www.mumsnet.com. One thing with the Manzanilla though is it will only keep fresh for about 3/4 days in the fridge due to its relatively low alcohol. Mind you it does come in 50cl bottles so if you give it to your partners when they get home shelf-life shouldn't prove a problem!
