Gros Manseng, 2008, Alain Brumont, Côtes de Gascogne
Gros Manseng is a Basque grape variety that is now making a name for itself in Gascony in southwest France where Alain and Catherine Brumont, whose names are synonymous with Madiran, are making a really good example.
This is part of a new project that Brumont has recently launched whereby he is sourcing grapes from growers whose soils and terroir are ideally suited to the particular variety in question. This is a gorgeously focused wine with an exuberant melons and passion-fruit nose, a refreshingly tangy fruitiness and an exotic and long finish.
