Château Garraud 2005

Lalande de Pomerol, Néac

An old-favourite of mine and tried last weekend, this 19 ha. estate (situated in Néac, on a wide-ranging terroir of clay and gravel) has produced a fabulous 2005 with a brooding, dense purple colour, a luxuriant damson and chocolate nose and a deep-flavoured, impressively textured mid-palate. The whole thing is particularly sharply defined without losing that tell-tale unctuousness. It's drinking beautifully but of course will continue to develop.
