Feudi di Sant'Eufemia - SALEMI Feudi di Sant'Eufamia is a new joint venture between Montresor and the Colomba Bianca co-operative, whose members own a massive 4,500 hectares in the Salemi area of western Sicily. The aim of the company is to produce a range of high quality wines, which are highly expressive of the local terroir and grape varieties. The elegantly-packaged Doricum pair (the white produced from selected Catarratto grapes and the red from Nero d'Avola) are modern, fresh and highly drinkable.
Cusumano - PARTANICO Today the Cusumano estate owns 300 hectares of vineyards throughout Sicily and is run by two brothers, Alberto and Diego who took the reins from their father Francesco in 2001 who had been at the helm for forty years.
From day one, the philosophy behind Cusumano, has been to 'emphasise the importance of knowledge of terroir, the investment in innovative technology and the building of a workforce which has a rich experience in viticulture and above all an absolute passion for winemaking'. Because of this intimate knowledge of the Sicilian terrain, Cusumano have been able to find prime vineyard locations throughout Sicily that allow maximum expression of, not only indigenous Sicilian grape varieties, but classic varietals that, according to Diego, evolve to take on their own Sicilian identity.
The winery and cellars were reconstructed in 2003 when a 19th century farmstead in Partinico was reconstructed with the aim of paying the utmost attention to the final stages of wine production. It houses the new underground barrique cellar, a new warehouse dedicated to bottling, a large area for refining periods in bottle and the new offices.
Settesoli - MENFI Settesoli one of Sicily's most respected and progressive wine producers. They are a 16,250-acre cooperative in the southwestern part of Sicily, around the historic town of Menfi in the southwest corner of this idyllic Mediterranean island. Settesoli's extensive investment in advanced winemaking technology, combined with the expertise of a distinguished team of five full time winemakers (headed by internationally renowned enologist Carlo Corino) has resulted in an outstanding line of wines that capture the flavors, essence and mystique of Sicily.
Cantina Planeta, more than any other company, has catapulted Sicilian wines into our consciousiness and they are now, rightly, up there with the best of them. Planeta wines win prizes in the same way that AC Milan win matches and they are just as highly repected as well. The Planeta family started making wine in 1985 on the shore of Lake Arancio near Sambuca di Sicilia. They started by evaluating the vineyards, working out which grapes suited which soil type and were not precious about only using indiginous varieties. They also invested in the latest technology and worked in partnership with the great Piemontese winemaker Carlo Corino.
