This family firm started in Náoussa, in northern Greece, in 1879, and today it is run by two innovative brothers, Yannis and Constantine Boutari, who, in 1965, started a long process of modernisation by planting of a 'trial' vineyard at Yanncohori and then expanded into regional winery investment by building state-of-the-art wineries at Santorini, Crete and the historic Bamiadaki estate, near Archanes. The skill of the Boutaris is to incorporate a high level of modern wine-making techniques whilst maintaining the individuality and regionality of their wines, continuing to use indigenous grape varieties.
