Menu Matcher - Pork .....................................................................................................................................................................................................
Pork is a meat that easily adapts to either red or white wine and can take quite a range of different sweetness when accompanied by the right side dish. Pork and prunes would be lovely with a rustic red from the Languedoc. Spicy barbecued ribs favour a fruity Aussie Shiraz and Roast Pork with Apple Sauce is great with a medium dry, grapey German white (try it and you will be converted).
Chardonnay/Sauvignon Blanc, 2006 - Vina La Rosa, Chile
A blend of the quite 'fat' fruity Chardonnay and the fresh grassy Sauvignon that brings out the best of both varieties. Dominated by tropical fruit flavours and crisp acidity. The pairing of the light, fresh aromatic Sauvignon Blanc with the richer Chardonnay is quite unusual, but here it works to tremendous effect, producing an exuberant, appealing wine which has lovely tropical fruit flavours, and is perfect unaccompanied, well-chilled, on a summer's day, or as a foil to coronation chicken, pork with prunes or any salad dish.
This is a rich, concentrated Villages with deep colours and plenty of black-cherry and raspberry fruit from a sublime vintage.
Château de Grandmont is a 9ha. Property, situated in the commune of Blacé, about 15 minutes drive south of Château du Pavé. It is owned by Georges Michel (a wealthy businessman, based in la Réunion - a French dependency in the Pacific) and Jean Brac de la Perrière, the late Henri Brac de la Perrière's eldest son. Chris Piper has been the consultant wine-maker since 2001 and since 2002, there has been a severe investment in the vineyard.
