Quincy Cuvée Zoe 2009, Domaine de Chevilly, Loire, France
£10.50 per bottle ex.VAT
A lovely fresh Quincy. Herbaceous, creamy and zesty on the nose with fresh citrus and grassy notes. Really lively, crisp and yet with an appealing roundness.
Domaine de Chevilly
The Domaine de Chevilly is located at Quincy, about 10 miles west from Sancerre. The 9 hectare vineyard is planted soley with sauvignon blanc. The average age of vines is 25 years with some 40 year old parcels and the estate is run by Yves and Antoine Lestourge. The Cuvée Zoe is a 'prestige' bottling from half a hectare of young vines planted on more clay-limestone based soils. It receives a macération pelliculaire (maceration on the skins) before being left on fine lees for around six months in tank before bottling.
Great when served with hot goats cheese salad or with chicken or fish.
Pigeoulet Rouge 2009, Domaines Brunier, Vaucluse, Southern Rhône, France
£7.63 ex.VAT per bottle
A mini Chateauneuf du Pape with a great concentration of flavours from the superb. Full-bodied and powerful with lots of peppery spiciness.
When the Brunier family bought Domaine de la Roquette in 1986, no one really realised the potential of this extraordinary 40-hectare estate. The domaine is made up from a number of fragmented parcels of very old vines (average age 45 years-old), situated in three distinctive zones on the rocky plateau to the north of the town of Châteauneuf du Pape.
Our long-standing partnership with Daniel and Frédéric Brunier has proved extremely fruitful as this is an estate that has leap-frogged into the top division in the past five years or so.
As well as making exceptional Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Daniel Brunier also makes an impressive Vin de Pays de Vaucluse called Le Pigeoulet Rouge which continues to win many new friends. The grapes are sourced from young parcels of vines within the southern part of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and also from 17and a half acres of newly acquired vines situated on the slopes of Mont Ventoux.
The grape mix is 80% Grenache, 10% Cabernet-Sauvignon 5% Syrahand 5% Cinsault and the vines have an average age of 20 years.
The resulting wine is full bodied and chunky with a gamey nose and a long wholesome fruit in the mouth. It has incredibly good length with a fine, spicy punch on the finish.
