Chardonnay Shelter Belt Jackson Estate, Marlborough
Ref: A128606
This single vineyard wine was named for the large shelterbelt of trees separating the grounds of the Jackson Estate homestead from the vineyard. This wine smells of grapefruit, mineral and spice, leading to a palate with a lush integrated texture and tension, sleek acidity, and finishing with fantastic balance and length.
Founded in the late eighties by John and Jo Stichbury, Jackson Estate is one of the few Marlborough winemakers to remain family-owned. The land was originally settled by Adam Jackson, John's great-grandfather, who purchased some 2000 acres of land that comprised most of Jackson's Road, now the sites for neighbouring vineyards such as Cloudy Bay, Allan Scott, and Stoneleigh.
The wines were well-received right from the beginning with quality being the focus, particularly with respect to the land and the vines. Jackson Estate became well-established in the UK and to this day remains a favourite among the influential UK wine media, with its flagship wine - Sauvignon Blanc.
Jackson Estate produces Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, and occasionally a botrytis wine when vineyard conditions allow.
