Until the mid-1950’s, Morocco (Maroc) was a substantial wine-producing country but, along with its independence in 1956, came a speedy decline in production. It is only in recent years that wine growers have become de-regulated from strict state controls and we are now seeing the emergence of some high quality, dynamic vineyards.

Beni M’tir is as sub-region of the Meknès/Fès zone and is situated in the north-east part of the country. Domaine Larroque’s vineyards are situated on the Saiss Plain, between the Rif and Atlas Mountains, and enjoy a classic continental climate with low rainfall, cold nights and hot days. These are ideal conditions for quality red wine production and this unusual Merlot/ Syrah blend has a spicy, herbal nose and a full, intense (and slightly exotic) fruitiness. It is obviously ideal with North African dishes!
