Barbaresco, La Spinona - 1991 - Pietro Berutti

Pietro Berutti is one of the most respected winemakers in the Barbaresco area and his wines are much acclaimed both in Italy and also the rest of the world.

The La Spinola estate consists of 54 acres. The name comes from a breed of Piedmontese hunting dog that the Beruttis breed and it earned its place on their wine label due to an act of heroism. The Berutti's infant son fell into an irrigation lake and the dog leapt in and saved him. The son, in turn, became a vet in order to save dogs! And now his chidren are attending enology school and it is hoped that they will one day take over the estate..

Berutti’s Barbaresco is fruity, fragrant, spicy and aromatic. The microelements in the terrain give it a special, earthy bouquet. The taste is rich, full and dry with a lingering and persistent finish. It has been a consistent medal winner throughout the world.
