Dolcetto D'Alba, Sori Baudana - 2006 - Luigi Baudana

The estate of Luigi Baudana is located in Serralunga d’Alba where he and his wife, Florina, run a very smart ship.

They own the famed 11 acre Baudana vineyard which is planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Dolcetto. The hill in the middle of the vineyard is called the "Sori Baudana" and it is the prime site and is planted exclusivly with Dolcetto. This jewel in Luigi's crown has excellent exposure and a microclimate that suits the Dolcetto grape perfectly.

The resulting wine is fermented in new oak and aged in stainless steel. It is no ordinary dolcetto. This is a wine with of intensty, viscosity, good structure and tannin. It drinks wonderfully now and can benefit from a few years of cellaring. Less than 3000 bottles are made in good vintages.

The nose has intense rose petal aromas with a touch of pipe tobacco and gaminess. In the mouth, there is a mass of plummy fruit with a well balanced minerally edge and great structure and length.
