Barbaresco Brico Asili Bernadot
Barbaresco Brico Asili Bernadot - 1998 - Bruno & Marcello Ceretto
Ref: A104098
Ceretto

This is textbook Barberesco from another great Piedmont vintage. A seductive nose of dried fruits and liquorice are backed up by a wonderfully elegant, well-defined palate. Try this with any game dish.

They have their cellars designed by famous architects and designers, but when they want to talk about vineyards, the Cerettos do it with the village postman, mayor and doctor. This is the philosophy of Bruno and Marcello Ceretto, the remarkable pair of brothers who, starting from their father's small firm, have managed to reach the top of their chosen profession in just a few decades. Their children have inherited the family spirit, and promise a new, fruitful blend of tradition and revolution.

Founded in 1973, Bricco Asili was not only the first Ceretto winery but one of the first examples in the region of a vinification facility located on a vineyard-a little château right there amongst the vines.

Today it is without doubt among the leading producers of Barbaresco wine, with the added assurance of knowing that its vineyards are within the bounds of three of the best-known and most highly acclaimed crus of the area.

The winery was the first to be fitted with steel vats in which the temperature can be controlled- somewhat unusual for this area at the beginning of the '70s. Here too, tradition has laid down the rules for the layout of the premises which, though enclosed in a highly modern shell, are harmoniously set into the surrounding countryside.

At present, the company farms 8.5 hectares of property vineyard: Bricco Asili, Bernardot and Faset. Average annual production is thus around 25,000 bottles, a readily manageable size which means that these wines can more easily be maintained at their existing levels of excellence.

A point of interest: the Bricco Asili vineyard was planted in 1970 on a piece of land where there had been no vines for more than 30 years, a factor of considerable importance as regards both the quality and life-span of a new vineyard.

The 1998 dislays aromas of spice, herbs and dried fruit. Juicy and supple, with a great concentration of ripe fruit interspersed with dried fruit flavours.
