Italy is awash with Vernaccia varieties which can produce anything from sherry-like wines, red wines and dry whites so one needs to establish which sub-variety one is talking about. The best Vernaccia is that grown around the town of San Gimignano and although Malvasia and Trebbiano have been knocking at the door, Vernaccia keeps them at bay with its positive and ripe fruitiness.
Characteristics: Forward, ripe and full-bodied with excellent acidity.
Where is it found? Tuscany
