Pinot Noir/Chardonnay/Pinot Meunier
Sparkling wines, Champagne and wines made in the champagne method (Méthode Champenoise) are invariably a blend which can include one or any of three distinct grape varieties.
Pinot Noir: Used in many blends to add richness of fruit and some darkness of colour. Generally adds opulence to the blend.
Chardonnay: The grape used for Blanc de Blancs. When used in blends it adds crispness, lightness and elegance.
Pinot Meunier: A very popular grape in Champagne due to its ability to bud late and ripen early. It adds acidity and alcohol to the blend.
