Named after Dr Scheu, the original director of the Alzey Viticultural Institute, Scheurebe is a cross between the Silvaner and Riesling varieties. It is a grape that ripens well producing lovely grape sugars well balanced by nervy acidity and when picked fully ripe has almost grapefruity flavours.
Characteristics: Blackcurranty with hints of grapefruit. Terrific balance.
Where is it found? Germany, Austria
Wines associated: Rheinhessen, Rheinpfalz
Food matches: Desserts, blue cheese
