It is also grown extensively in Italy where it is known as Pinot Bianco. In Austria it is responsible for some very fine, sweet Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines made under the synonym of Weissburgunder.

In this country it can be left on the vine for late-harvesting when it is effected by noble rot to make outstanding dessert wines.
