Not part of the Muscat grape family but the third and least important grape blended into the great sweet wines if Sauternes and Barsac. It is also grown in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux where it is blended into the medium and dry white wines. It is best used in Australia's sticky Liqueur Tokays grown predominantly in South Australia and Victoria.
Characteristics: In the sweeter Bordeaux wines it is generally used in small percentages to contribute gentle fruitiness and aroma. In drier wines it is generally dull and unexciting.
Where is it found?: Bordeaux, Bergerac, South Western France, Eastern Europe, South Australia and Victoria.
Food matches: In its sweet form with Foie Gras, Tart Tatin, Blue Cheeses
