Famous white grape of the Northern Rhône but has been successfully grown outside Europe.
Characteristics: Produces full-bodied, deep coloured and aromatic whites with high viscosity. Often has aromas of apricots and peaches particularly. It is often blended with Roussanne in the Rhône to provide more delicacy and freshness as on its own it can tend to be flabby.
Where is it found? Northern Rhône in wines like St. Joseph and Hermitage. Also grown successfully in Australia and California.
Wines associated: St Joseph, Hermitage, St Péray, Victoria
Food matches: Fish, Chicken, Pork
