Malvasia Fina is only grown in the Douro where it is one of six grape varieties usually used in the making of white port (someone is bound to ask, so, the other five are Esgano-Cào, Folgasao, Verdelho, Rabigato and Viosinho). One of Malvasia's virtues, is that it produces a hefty amount of alcohol while still retaining a keen sweetness, both of which make it ideal for port production.
Characteristics: Lots of alcohol and sweetness
Where is it found? Douro port vineyards
Wines associated: White Port
Food matches: Cheddar Cheese, aperitif, savouries
