The name of this vine comes from the local patois for 'loin de l'il' or 'far from the eye' and refers to the grapes growing at the end of long branches and hence a long way from the eye where the branch grows out of the trunk. About the only place where it is planted these days is Gaillac where it needs well ventilated and well drained sites to avoid rotting.
Characteristics: Fairly powerful and characterful with a chunky fruitiness.
Where is it found? Gaillac
Wines associated: Gaillac
Food matches: Fish, white meats, roast pork
