No not some obscure green coloured cruise ship but the famous grape of Austria.
Characteristics: Capable of producing much that is light and inoffensive but in the right regions like the Wachau it can produce wines of much more dimension and power. These sort of dry wines have the power to develop with some bottle age.
Where is it found?: Primarily Austria and to some extent in eastern Europe.
Wines associated: Austria
Food matches: Aperitif, freshwater fish, raclette and fondues
