The only permitted variety for the production of Beaujolais wines. Its proper name is the Gamay Noir à Jus Blanc (Black Gamay with white juice).
Characteristics: Grown on the best granite soils of the Beaujolais Crus in villages like Fleurie, Morgon, Brouilly and Moulin-a-Vent to name but four these red wines achieve a unique plumpness and generosity of fruity flavour that has never been successfully recreated outside of this small corner of France. The wines are generally best served cool to emphasise their ripe, round fruity character.
