A very distinctive grape that produces a peachy and very aromatic wine a little akin to Viognier. It is a very thick skinned grape which makes it an ideal variety anywhere where it is pretty damp as it is not prone to rot. It can, though, produce very alcoholic wines but always retains top class acidity.
Characteristics: Great acidity that nicely balances a full, floral fruitiness.
Where is it found? Rias Baixas in Galicia (northern Spain) and Portugal.
Wines associated: Albariño (one of the few Spanish white grapes to have its name appear on the label).
