A great deal to chose from but here are a couple of suggestions.
Garnacha Tres Picos, 2006 - Bodegas Borsao, Zaragoza, Spain - £12.81 per bottle
Deep and ever so slightly sweet, Tres Picos Borsao is cherry red in colour with a hint of purple. On the nose, there is a big bouquet of mature red fruits with floral traces so typical of the best Garnachas. In the mouth, it is rich and well-structured simultaneously conveying flavours of blackberries, strawberries and tones of vanilla and plums. Perfectly combined with a sweet and pleasant tannin, Tres Picos Borsao leaves a long, silky and balanced finish.
The Garnacha grapes come from vineyards that are between 35 and 40 years old. Located on uneven terrain at an altitude of 600 to 700 metres, these vineyards yield under four and a half tons of grape per hectare.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a temperature between 25ºC and 30ºC with a long maceration of over 21 days.
Green Point Brut NV - Moet et Chandon, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia - £11.55 per bottle
A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from cool regions including Central Victorian Highlands, Strathbogie Ranges, King Valley and the Yarra Valley. The colour is mid to light straw yellow with a bouquet revelaing floral notes with fig and subtle toasty aromas. The wine has creamy and soft characteristics on the front palate, which continues to a lingering Brut (dry) finish. Flavours of white peach, honey and roasted nuts blend harmoniously to create a complex wine with a refreshing aftertaste.
Green Point is on a spur of land running from Yeringberg Hill to the Yarra river, in the heart of the Yarra Valley. It is the home of Domaine Chandon Australia, where Green Point sparkling and Green Point still wines are produced.
It is named Green Point because in the 1850s the early settlers of the Yarra Valley observed that, each year, as summer advanced and the grass turned straw colour, this property remained green longer than any other . The reason for this is that the ancient alluvial soils at Green Point are deep and therefore retain moisture well into the summer. These soils combined with the Yarra Valleys cool climate, define a site with ideal terroir for growing wine grapes.
Domaine Chandon at Green Point was established in 1986 by Moët & Chandon to produce high quality sparkling and still wines that reflect in their aromas, flavours and structure the Australian terroir in which they are grown.
Green Point are now recognised for their style and quality in Australia and 16 other countries.
