Bernkasteler Graben Riesling Spätlese
-
1997
-
Weingut S.A. Prüm
Ref: A093697
The Graben vineyard lies on lower slopes to the north of the famous Doktor vineyard. Its wines are less minerally and usually softer and lighter in style. This 1997 has a lovely tingling acidity and gentll sweet peachiness. Drink now until 2006.
Wines have been commercially produced here for 200 years. However, the most exciting developments have occurred in the past 33 years when Raimund Prüm took over the management of this family-owned property in 1971.
Since then, he has built his Wehlen-on-the-Mosel property into one of the most successful wineries. It boasts an international reputation. Furthermore, Raimund Prüm is one of nations most distinguished and distinctive of Germanys top vintners. For not only does he lead one of countrys finest vineyards, which is located on the most preferred growing area along the entire length of the Mosel, garnering the highest honors year after year, but he also is an unmistakable personality as well.
Standing over 64 tall, Herr Prüm is known as Raimund the Red, his flaming scarlet hair standouts out in any crowd; being a kind fellow, he also accepts the affectionate, good-humored chiding of close friends who call him Der Specht or Il Pico the woodpecker!
The S.A. Prüm Winery is a founding member of the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter or The Association of German Premium Wineries VDP, for short. As an expression of its responsibility for encouraging the production of superlative wines and maintaining the identity and characteristics of a viticultural landscape-environment, formed by unique vineyard parcels, the Premium Wineries have taken it upon themselves the task of guaranteeing the integrity of Grands Vins superlative wines grown in Germanys greatest growths.
