In this commune, the Gamay grape produces, intense and luscious wines, which Janin has taken on board, to produce this most exquisite, rich and powerful wine. There is plenty of powerful fruity succulence heightened by the pungent red berry aromas, with an underlying mineral tang working in conjunction with well-balanced tannins. These are characteristics that set the Moulin-à-Vent aside from the rest of the Cru Beaujolais.

Paul Janin is a very serious wine-maker and his move towards bio-dynamic wine making and viticulture appears to have further elevated the quality of his already exceptional wines. However tempting it is to look at this approach as verging on sorcery, the end results are superb The Clos du Tremblay (made from 80 year-old vines from a Clos that represents a cross-section of all the soil-types found throughout the AOC of Moulin-à-Vent) is concentrated, complex and long with clear overtones of irises, a bouquet that derives from the high percentage of manganese in the soil. The Villages wines always have a powerful fruity succulence and deep colour - these are all the very best Moulin-à-Vents.
