Sweet and almost caramelised with a superb, balancing acidity.

"The superstar of Rasteau is André Roméro [of Domaine la Soumade] who produces five cuvées of drop-dead gorgeous red wine." Robert Parker was obviously excited!

André shares his three big passions with the best chef in the area and they all point to the type of guy he is - wine, food and Marseille football. He is a small gaunt man with striking grey eyes and is entirely self-taught and believes passionately in low yields (35 hectolitres per hectare for this Villages wine) and extended fermentation. He has invested in an automatic pigeage system along Burgundian lines which ensures maximum extraction.

The Rasteau Doré is quite unusual as it is made from the Grenache Blanc (as opposed to Muscat from which so many orginate). It is really more of an aperitif than a dessert wine but, having said that, many of the top restaurants in the Rasteau region serve the wine to accompany dishes especially created to go with it.
